Favorite Four: April

As the weather changes, spring arrives, and life begins to bloom again, I find that my beauty routine also changes.  This is the time of year when I’m trying to refresh my dull winter skin by by using products that increase luminosity for a dewy glow.  I typically go for a lighter, brighter hair color, and I slather on the self tanner to get my legs shorts-ready.

This month, my Fav Four beauty products include a cleansing duo from one of my favorite skincare companies that leaves my skin soft and smooth with a brightness that says farewell to winter.  I am also featuring a leave-in spray conditioner that tames fly-aways as well as enhances overall shine and volume, helping to keep my freshly highlighted hair looking its best.  Even though it isn’t necessarily a “spring product,” I also included my favorite brow products, since I simply cannot go anywhere without some brow help.  And of course, my favorite spring nail color is pink – it’s a nice change from those darker winter shades for toes that are ready to step out of boots and into sandals.

  1. Clarity Rx Get Clean Crushed Bamboo Exfoliator and Cleanse Daily Vitamin Infused Cleanser
I previously featured another Clarity Rx product, Daily Dose of Water serum, because I fell in love with how silky-smooths it left my skin feeling.  I decided I wanted to try some other products so I went with a cleanser and exfoliator.  At first, I wasn’t that impressed with the cleaner; it seemed pretty basic.  But then I realized that it left my face with that same, super soft feel that the serum did.  I don’t ever remember using a product that left my skin clean and soft without any trace of greasiness; just simple softness.
IMG_3499The bamboo exfoliator is awesome, too.  A little goes a long way, and the texture is just right – not too gritty like some exfoliators that leave you feeling raw and scratched.  It has just the right amount of texture that does a great job of lifting away dirt and dead cells to leave your face clean and fresh.  I use it once a week, and follow it with the cleanser for an ultra-smooth finish on my face.  I highly recommend this line of skin care products.  They are a little pricey, but totally worth it.  *Note that they recently changed their packaging, so your may look different than pictured above.
  2. Hask Argan Oil 5-in-1 Leave-In Spray
argan oilI have hair extensions and I found that even though I use a wonderful conditioner, I still needed something else to help detangle my hair as well as provide some heat protection, but I didn’t want anything too heavy that would weigh down my natural hair.  This stuff is simply amazing – there is a visible difference in my hair (both the extensions and my natural hair) as well as improved overall texture.  Not only does it help detangle my hair, but it makes it shiny without appearing greasy.  I noticed that my hair also seems to have more volume and a nice texture to it when I use the spray.  Additionally, it seems to preserve my blow-out leaving my hair looking just as good the next day.  It has a light almost citrusy sent and sprays on easily in a fine mist.  And, since it is reasonably priced, you don’t have to worry about skimping!  I picked this up at Target for just $6.49!
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and Dip Brow Pomade

Not only do I have super thin, light blonde eyebrows, but I plucked them to death in the 90’s, leaving them even thinner.  So, you can imagine that when full, shapely eyebrows became all the rage a couple years ago, I was hugely disappointed because I just don’t have eyebrows to speak of.  I have been penciling in my eyebrows for over twenty years, so I’m no stranger to brow products, but the Anastasia line is more than just eyebrow pencils.  There is a whole line of items in a variety of shades to fit your every brow need.  The ultra-slim Brow Wiz retractable pencil allows you to easily create precise lines.  I use it to sort of outline my brows to establish the shape, then I fill them in the the Dip Brow Pomade using a fine brush.  The Dip Brow is super thick, so a little goes a long way.  Also, the pomade is darker than the pencils, so even though I use Taupe in the Brow Wiz, I use Blonde in the Dip Brow.  There is a wider pencil called the Brow Definer which I have also used, but I really prefer the other two products over it.  You can pick up the Anastasia line at Ulta or Sephora.

  4. OPI Tagus In That Selfie pink nail polish
tagus-in-thar-selfie-gcl18-gel-color-22800014118_1Warmer weather means transitioning from darker nail colors to lighter spring colors.  I love a good shade of pink, and Tagus In That Selfie is just that:  what I call “bubble gum pink.”  I also like lighter shades of pink that are almost nude as well as brighter pops of hot pink, but this color is perfect for these first days of spring.  This shade is available in the Infinite Shine Collection, which you can get at Ulta and also in their professional long lasting gel line that most nail salons carry.  I usually get gel on my fingers, but go for regular polish on my toes.  Whenever possible, I try to find OPI shades in gel that have a similar color in the Infinite Shine collection, because I don’t like the hassle of gel on my toes, but I do like that the Infinite Shine collection seems to last longer than regular polish.

I have some new items on my list to try out and hope to feature some of them for next month’s Fav Four – if you have a favorite beauty item, comment below!

  1. Now that I have mostly gray hair that gets dyed and Chicago winter makes it even harder, I’m definitely going to pick up the hairspray stuff! I’ll have to try Clarity when I run out of my current stuff.
