It’s finally done! I still haven’t hung pictures on the walls yet, and that’s just because I cannot decide which route to go, but other than that minor detail, it’s finally done thanks to my wonderful husband and his electrical skills. Seriously, this guy can do anything!
If you’ve been following our “fixer upper” journey, you’ll recall that in my post Home Remodel Diary Part 1, I showed you the amazing transformation of our kitchen and living areas. We still have some projects “in progress” but for the most part the interior of the home is nearly complete. We will begin tackling the exterior and landscaping soon.
That said, I am so happy that my office space is finally done. I’m sure I’ll make some minor changes and updates here and there, but it is pretty much exactly what I was going for. The room is located on the right side of the house, just opposite of the kitchen, and was a little girl’s bedroom for the previous family. The walls were painted a shade of purple, the ceiling was textured, and the floors were covered in carpet.

Since our remodel included all new drywall and floors, my office now has a smooth ceiling, a neutral color on the walls, and beautiful hickory floors. I added a flush mount chandelier from Lowes – the hanging chandelier I originally purchased had to be returned as it was entirely to large for the space. Since the ceilings are only 8′, I went with a flush mount. I wanted some bling, but nothing over the top and felt that this fixture fit the bill.
I knew I wanted this space to double as a guest room if needed, so I decided to add a daybed instead of a couch. I picked up this Alena Daybed with Trundle from Rooms To Go’s “kids” department. The mattresses I ordered from Amazon are Signature Sleep Memoir 8″ memory foam that came rolled up in a small box. All I had to do was open the box, remove them from the plastic and let them puff up for a couple hours. They are very comfortable – more so than the pullout couch we have in our basement. The quilt set came from Bed Bath & Beyond, and the throw pillows and throws I picked up at various places like Home Goods and Target.
I featured my book shelf DIY makeover in a previous post, Target Bookshelf Hack in which I transformed a bookshelf with gold spray paint and marble contact paper. Finding decorative items for the shelf was so much fun! Most of them came from Target and Home Goods except for the super cool Mid-century Modern Clock that I picked up from World Market.
I knew I wanted a white desk with gold accents, but because the space is a little small, I had a hard time finding something I liked. I finally came across this Dayne Writing Desk from Wayfair. It was relatively easy to assemble (I actually did it myself with minimal guidance from my hubby). I also ordered the tufted chair from Wayfair, but it’s no longer available. It’s super soft and comfy and matched the bedding I chose perfectly.
The Lush Decor ruffled drapes, decorative rod with faceted ball finial ends, and fur rug are all from Bed Bath Beyond. Let me tell you, those 20% coupons come in handy when redecorating a room! I also scored this HUGE full length mirror from Kirklands. It was so big I had to borrow my husband’s Landcruiser to go pick it up!
I am truly loving my new space – it’s both cozy and chic and it’s location at the front of the house provides a nice, sunny spot. It’s hard to be in a bad mood when I’m in this room.
Loved that room when I first saw it and even more now.
